Boston Technology/Geeky Events

Just for my own reference, I’ve been maintaining a calendar of tech or new-media related events in Boston for years now. It just recently dawned upon me that there aren’t many lists like this published so I decided to make mine available. When my work is slow I look at the calendar and see what is going on. I try to make it to one or two events a month.

One frustration I have is that so many events are announced with only a week or so notice. Organizers, please release as many details as early as you can, it will get more people to go to your event. If you know of anything going on that I don’t have on my list, please, send it along.

We begin with the doors officially opening at 6:30pm in the Cambridge Royal Sonesta Hotel. At 7pm in the Grand Ballroom we’ll hold our usual format of self-/angel-funded startups demo’ing to the audience in Main Dish showcases, and select an “Audience Choice” winner of the crowd’s favorite. During the entire evening’s event, Side Dish startup companies will provide informal demonstrations to the networking crowd from the Skyline Suites room.

Event: GDGT live
When: Wed, Sep 22 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Description: Free

“The show is slated for September 22, but does not have a location. Companies including HTC, Kodak, and Logitech are already committed, and gdgt expects a crowd between 500-1,000. The format flows from an early evening press hour to a 3-hour event open to the public, during which geeked-up Bostonians can check out the latest tech gadgets, gear and services while munching on passed hors douvres and sipping cocktails. Myers also said, they’ll have a Q&A panel with some of the sponsors. Previous participants have included Windows Phone, Moxie, and Arris.”

Event: PechaKucha Boston 19
When: Mon, Sep 27 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Description: Free – Cash Bar

PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It’s a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.
